ITANAGAR, Aug 28: S D Londa has been elevated to the post of president (acting) of All East Kameng Students Union (AEKSU) following resignation of present incumbent Tukfi Riang. Further, Union’s assistant general secretary Karbia Neri was elevated to the post of vice president.
Meanwhile, the central executive body of the Union, in a consultative meeting on August 23 at Seppa, has unanimously resolved to extend the tenure of the body for another few months under the leadership of president Londa. The decision was taken under the provision of the union’s bye laws.

ANYO questions Govt on Thakur issue
ITANAGAR, Aug 28: All Nyishi Youth Organization (ANYO) has urged upon the state Govt to break its silence and disclose the results of the enquiry into the derogatory remarks made by reporter Pradeep Thakur in a leading national daily on May 4 last.
Pointing out its memorandum submitted to Governor on May 13, submission of an ultimatum to state Govt on June 22 and formation of a committee under the convenorship of minister Atum Welly and formation of a high level committee headed by Home Minister Takar Marde to enquire into Thakur issue, the organization resented that despite all these initiatives, there is no logical conclusion of the issue till date. Considering “no action and no enquiry” into the episode, the chief minister should take moral responsibility and resign, the organization said.

Five villages electrified under RGGVY
PASIGHAT, Aug 28: Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Gadum including Mer village of East Siang district have been electrified under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana yesterday.
The power supply to the above villages was formally inaugurated by MLA Ralom Borang in presence of ADC Mebo O Dai, EE (Electrical) Er. O Siram, Block President, NCP T Pertin, ZPM T Yirang and other party functionaries.
Addressing the public meetings at Namsing and Meir last evening, Borang highlighted various developmental activities being carried out by him in the constituency and assured that all genuine demands and needs of the people would be fulfilled phase wise.
He expressed his gratitude to Power (Electrical) department for using quality material and completion of the project within stipulated time. He advising the people to protect the public property in their respective areas said “social harmony is the essence of prosperity and people must be knowledgeable and act like a responsible citizens”. Condolences pour in for brave jawan Pate Tasuk
ITANAGAR, Aug 28: The condolences are pouring in from various organizations and prominent personalities for Pate Tasuk, the brave soldier who succumbed to bullets on August 25 while fighting with the militants at Kupwara at Baramullah District, Srinagar. Late Tasuk was a Lance Naik serving in the 17th Guard Regiment of the 21 Rashtriya Rifles, Indian Army and posted in Jammu and Kashmir.

On behalf of rank and file of Arunachal Pradesh police and on behalf of people of state, Home Minister conveyed heartfelt condolences to bereaved family of the brave soldier and prayed to Almighty to give them enough courage to bear the irreparable loss.
The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today paid its homage to late Pate Tasuk. A delegation led by the union President Takam Tatung laid wreath on behalf of the student community of the state. AAPSU termed the sacrifice of late Tasuk as an unprecedented mark of loyalty towards motherland.
The All Nyishi Students Union (ANSU) observed two minutes silence over the demise of Pate Tasuk.
The member of Union pray to the almighty to bestow enough strength to the bereaved family for the irreparable loss and pray that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
Tasuk death is inspirational and the supreme sacrifice for the motherland should be emulated by Nyishi as well as all other youths of the State, the union said in a condolence message.
At the same time, the State Government should honour the sacrifice in a befitting manner, it said.
The rank and file of the Bharatiya Janata Party Arunachal Pradesh organized condolence meeting at its party headquarters today. The nation lost one of the courageous soldiers with the death of Late Tasuk, the party said. The members prayed almighty God to bestow upon enough strength to the bereaved family members to come over from this traumatic situation and for eternal peace of the departed soul.
The state BJP leaders headed by its state President, Dr. Tangor Tapak (MLA) and state BJYM president Doni Nich attended the last rites of late Tasuk at Banderdewa and paid floral tribute on behalf of the party. Later the State party President met the bereaved family.
AAPSU disappointed with Govt’s ‘indifferent attitude’
ITANAGAR, Aug 28: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) expressed disappointment over the indifferent attitude shown by the state government towards late Pate Tasuk, the brave soldier who lost his life while fighting against enemy of the nation in Jammu and Kashmir on August 25.
In a release AAPSU President Takam Tatung stated that the cold response shown to the supreme sacrifice by the state government on the arrival of the mortal remains of Late Tasuk yesterday will demoralize youth of the state in joining the arm forces to serve our nation.
“It is quite disheartening to see that authorities are not showing any respect to the deceased soul. When his body arrived no one from state government came to receive at the helipad. This is complete disregard to the martyr who sacrificed his life for the nation,” said Takam Tatung.
“The Chief Secretary being head of the bureaucrats should have taken some initiative in this whole issue. Being a local Arunachalee, we expect him to be more concern towards issues related to interest of Arunachal,” stated Tatung. He further added, “We appreciate Governor J J Singh for sending his representatives but his effort seems half hearted. Coming from army background, he should have shown more compassionate to late Tasuk. Why didn’t he himself go to the helipad to receive the body. Was he so busy that he had no time to pay respect to fellow soldier who laid down life for the country?”

TAWANG, Aug 28: The Environmental Protection Society (EPS) in collaboration with the Arunachal Vikas Parishad (AVP) successfully conducted free medical camps at Kharteng village, situated about 60 km away from Tawang Town and Kitpi village on August 27 and 28 respectively. A team of doctors provided free treatment and medicines to large number of patients in both the medical camps.
While appreciating the initiatives of the AVP, the Society urged them to carry on such initiatives in the days to come. The Society also conveyed heartfelt gratitude to DMO Tawang for supporting the camp with doctors. Meanwhile, the EPS President Jambey Dondu advised the villagers to take care of their health and hygiene and also assured them that the EPS will positively carry out cleanliness programme and awareness camp in the days to come.

Treatment regimes for some of them were initiated while others were put on preparatory stages. Such camps will be conducted in District Hospital, Ziro on August 29 and 30, 2011. The team will move on to Yazali on August 31 before leaving for Shillong.
It may be mentioned that the camp was conceived as a result of an online discussion about substance abuse menace in the society. Ngunu Ziro, a local organization based at Ziro working for sustainable development of the area was requested to coordinate. They took responsibility for publicity and local logistic arrangements. The district administration and the district health authority pitched in with necessary cooperation. Local cable television networks like the Subansiri Cable pitched in with offers of free publicity about the camp.
Ranganadi project affected people cry for justice

ITANAGAR, Aug 28: While state government is busy in penning memorandum of agreement/ memorandum of understanding with various hydropower developers for starting hydro projects in Arunachal Pradesh, project affected people of 405 MW Ranganadi hydro projects are still crying for the justice.
The downstream project affected citizens under the banner of Lichi Cher village Ranganadi Project Affected Area Management Committee has been fighting against NEEPCO authorities for last many years without much success. They have been submitting memorandum after memorandum seeking attention of NEEPCO authorities towards problem faced by them because of the effect of Ranganadi Project. However NEEPCO authorities never paid heed to their problems. Ever since this project was commissioned, life has changed for bad for the people of downstream affected citizens.
“NEEPCO authorities release water from dam without any warning. We have lost couple of precious lives in the past because of such careless attitude of NEEPCO. Our domestic animals are being washed away whenever water is released. We live in constant fear as our children sometimes go to river for swimming during summer season,” shared Tarh Takam, resident of Cher village. He further informed that because of the blocking of the flow of Ranganadi River it has badly affected various aspects of life in the area. “There is no more fish in the river. During summer whenever NEEPCO releases excess water from dam it leads to flooding of our downstream area. This has led to massive erosion and our villages are at danger of getting vanished due to such erosion,” said Tarh Takam.
Villagers further complained that whenever they protest to authorities about domestic animals being washed away by Ranganadi water, they always ask for proof. “Couple of times I had lodged complaint regarding domestic animal being washed away when water is released. Quite surprisingly they asked me to show proof. How can I show proof as animals have been washed away in water,” said Lishi Yari another resident of Cher village. While electricity generated from 405 Ranganadi hydro project is being supplied across India, downstream project affected people still do not get 24 hours electricity facilities.

Urine test to detect TB
Testing urine samples for specific chemicals could serve as a quick and painless way to detect tuberculosis (TB), according to Indian researchers. The urine test offers a less invasive diagnostic method for an infectious disease that causes three million deaths and 10 million new cases worldwide each year. Developing countries account for 95 per cent of new infections and 98 per cent of deaths.
The Delhi-
TB diagnosis relies mainly on a test to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis in blood or sputum samples taken from the lung and examined under a microscope.
Developing countries prefer a simple test requiring minimum resources and trained personnel, and one that gives quick and easily interpreted results, the Delhi scientists observed.
Their technique measures five 'volatile organic compounds' (VOCs) in urine that have a low boiling point and vaporise at room temperature.
The team tested the method in 117 fresh cases of TB and found significantly different levels of these chemicals in TB patients, compared with healthy people.
It found a distinct pattern — three VOCs showed higher levels and two lower levels — in TB patients, not seen in healthy persons or in patients with lung ailments such as lung cancer or asthma.
The levels could also indicate the effect of treatment, the team said.
